Some of the matte paintings I worked on for Just Noise, created a while ago in collaboration with Hard Brush Studio. It’s a documentary movie about the rebellion against British soldiers that took place in Malta in 1919. Our main challenge was to recreate many locations from this time period that no longer exist.
The first shot was the most complicated one. We were tasked with recreating the old Malta fish market based on black-and-white photos of the location. We used data from Google Earth to ensure the scale and geometry were set up correctly. From there, we proceeded with a 3D layout and finalized the matte painting.
In the second shot, we added a ship and a small piece of background.
For the third shot, our task was to create a believable background of an old fort.
